The Breakfast Club, pre-school style (Kylan, AJ & Grace)

The Breakfast Club, pre-school style (Kylan, AJ & Grace)

This morning, Grace arrived at school ready for her morning snack!  She sat down with her friends, but when the Rice Krispies didn’t appear quickly enough (AJ was getting his hands washed) Grace hopped right up to see if Ms. Brandy needed some help!

Do you need my help?

Grace is very excited that today she will get to see her godmother Cynthia.  That will mean visiting with doggies and kitties lots of snuggles, of course.  Grace always likes seeing Godmother Cynthia (also known as Aunt Bird) because she can tell her all of her baby secrets and they laugh about her baby jokes.  Yay for fun with Godmother Cynthia!

Dear Gammy,

(Daddy is typing this on my behalf.)  Thank you so much for the books.  The Velveteen Rabbit and Goodnight Moon are wonderful stories.  Mama and Daddy have read them a few times — well, a lot — and I enjoy them every time I hear them.  Thank you also for the red Tupperware.  Daddy lets me pound on it every morning.  Makes nice thumping sounds while Daddy is messing with my britches.   The clothes and bathing suits you sent fit really well this summer.  Glad that it covered my behind on the beach, in Grandpa’s boat, and at Uncle Owen’s swimming pool.  I don’t think sunburn or sand would feel good on my bottom.  The hair bows are BEAUTIFUL.  Not only do they clip well in my hair, but they also taste pretty good too.  I usually chew on them a couple of times a day.  The blue ones don’t taste like blueberries though.  I’ll keep checking.  The Baby Tenda is okay.  I’d really like to throw more food on the floor,  but for some reason, Mama and Daddy can’t appreciate that.  They like having a place where I can sit to sit and eat and paint and read and spit Cheerios on the floor from a distance.  You should see all the Cheerios I’ve spit so far!

Daddy says that we’ll visit you soon, and I look forward to seeing you on the computer.  I like to go naked at home (after I go to the potty — one way or another).  Did you know that?  Daddy said that he’d lift me up to the camera, so you can see my House Uniform!  🙂

I love you!

PS/ Daddy says that you and PeePaw are going to buy me a TRICYCLE.  Daddy says that I’m not quite ready for that, but after I start walking, we’ll make that our next project.

Happy Birthday Gammie!

Today is Gracie’s Gammie’s birthday.  When Mama asked Gracie what we should get Gammie for her birthday, Gracie suggested a duck.  With a little bit of searching, we were able to find that Heifer International was a great way to send Gammie a duck without any of the mess or clean up!  So Gammie can appreciate Gracie’s thoughtfulness, a family in Asia can appreciate the flock of ducks and Mama & Daddy can be proud of their little humanitarian.  Yay for Gammie’s birthday, and yay for ducks!

My Daddy is the GREATEST!

My Daddy is the GREATEST!

Grace and her Daddy have a very special bond, forged through lots of tickling, raspberries and hanging upside down.  She also loves to crawl into Daddy’s home office and ask to sit in his lap.  She’s such a snuggle bug that Mama couldn’t resist snapping a picture of these two grinning at the pleasure of each other’s company.

Snuggling Mama

One last cuddle before school starts

One last cuddle before school starts

Grace has taken to needing a lot of cuddling before we leave her in the classroom– she clings to knees and fusses and takes her sweet time becoming interested in whatever is going on in her classroom.  Today Daddy took the opportunity to catch a quick shot of Mama and Grace cuddling.  If you zoom in, you can see her tooth on the bottom!

Official Notice

Today we got the official letter regarding Grace’s transition to toddlers (and the tuition bill, which is a little less 🙂 as well!).  They’ve planned a week of building days in toddlers (she already visits at least once a week, it seems) and by September 14th, she’ll be spending the entire day in the toddler room!  She’s getting so big!

Playing with AJ

Playing with AJ

Yesterday Grace was visiting the toddlers room and went outside with them.  Unfortunately, she doesn’t like shoes, and so Mama’s gotten lazy about making sure that she’s wearing them.  Fortunately, there were a few pairs of extra socks, so they doubled up the socks and she was able to play on the playground.   For the future, Mama’s taken two pairs of shoes to be kept in her cubby.

On the toddling front, yesterday she took 4 steps (and AJ clapped for her!) and she has started standing on her own and will often take a tentative step or two.  She’ll be walking soon!  (YIKES, says Mama!)

High Five!

High Five!

High Five!

Grace was a very big girl this morning, and pooped in her potty.  When she got to daycare, Ms. Katina was so proud, she gave Grace a high five!  Mama and Daddy had to laugh when Gracie pooped because she started clapping, and when we checked the potty, we did too!  Yay for early potty learning and elimination communication!

A Pony!

Gracie and Cowgirl

Gracie and Cowgirl

Gracie was excited to learn that Greatest Aunt Jenny was serious when she said that she was going to get Gracie a pony to ride.  Today Gracie got to try out sitting bare back on Cowgirl, and while she didn’t totally understand the whole “Hold on tight!” part of sitting on the pony, she clapped a lot and called her ‘Duck’ (I’m sure that it’s a term of endearment).

Yay for doggies!

Grace and Leroy

Grace loves her Greatest Aunt Jenny’s house!  There are lots of doggies (well, okay, it’s only two), but they let her pet them and love on them (with frequent reminders from Mama that she needed to be gentle!) and plenty of fun toys to play with too!  What a fun weekend– with visits to Great Grandma Emmy’s and all the toys she can imagine!  Yay for fun with the Reidsville crew!

Showing Ms. Victoria

Showing Ms. Victoria

Grace was glad to get to school this morning to show off her new ‘do.  Everyone’s still adjusting (Mama & Daddy more so than Grace, who pretty much took the whole thing in stride), but for the most part, the general feeling is– at least it’ll grow back…   She’s also very excited that she’ll get to see her Greatest Aunt Jenny this weekend, because (and Gracie doesn’t know this yet, so shhhh!) there’s a pony at Aunt Jenny’s house, waiting for Gracie to come and pet it! 🙂

A haircut!

The before picture

The before picture

Today, when Grace got home from daycare, we stripped her down and Mama took scissors to a few of her curly locks.  Grace was very patient with the whole thing, considering.  She’s still a little confused when she pulls on her hair and it doesn’t come to the same place, but that hasn’t stopped her from anything in particular.  She kept reaching for the scissors once the haircut was over, and was very interested in the little pile of brown curls kept just beyond her reach.

The carnage

Mama’s sad that we’ve passed another milestone and seem to be fast approaching the point where no one can argue that Grace is a baby anymore, but is glad that there is no more mullet, and a lower likelihood of hair in the eyes.

Grace is doing pretty well these days.  Seems to be over the ear infections thanks to a magical pink elixir of health.   We weren’t sure what to make of her very loud crying — of course, it makes us upset since we’d done everything we could.  We were positive, however, that it wasn’t food, wet britches, loneliness, or drama.  Then, we went to Mr. Prune Juice — straight up — and the next day, we had a late sleeper and a bunch of laundry to do.

Don’t you just love happy endings?  (figuratively and literally).

Steppin’ Out

Considering walking

Considering walking

Grace was pondering walking this morning, but chose to take the faster route to the breakfast table and crawled.  She’ll walk one day, but I’m not trying to rush her…
