Yummy breakfast!

Yummy breakfast!

Grace had a doctor’s appointment this morning, and we were glad to know that she has totally clear ears. 🙂

She was very happy to arrive at day care and have cheese muffins ready for her. She promptly pushed the plate off onto the floor, but continued to much on the pieces that were left on the table. Ah, willfulness and self agency. What delightful traits in a small person!

Grace woke up early this morning (5:30 AM) ready to take on the world. Because she got so much snuggle time with her Great Grandma and Great Aunt, she was sorely disappointed when Mama couldn’t devote that amount of time and (the nerve!) went off to go get dressed, leaving Grace *by herself* for a whole 3 minutes to play with her toys in her crib. Needless to say, quite a few tears were shed over this betrayal.

Upon arriving at day care, Grace immediately went over to AJ and took his toy, just to show him who’s boss. (The sad part? Once she had it, she didn’t even play with it. She just wanted to take his stuff. 😦 …) Oh well, for now, we’re trying to teach the idea of sharing, but that’ll be a project for the next few years, I’m afraid. Of course, when she doesn’t get her way, this is how *she* looks…

Jiggity jog!

Grace returned home from Reidsville to a very happy Mama & Daddy, who had missed her quite a lot! She talked a lot about her trip, although we don’t understand what she’s saying, the excitement was evident.

So many thanks go out to Great Grandma Emmy and Great Aunt Jenny, baby wranglers extraordinaire!

Grace is on vacation in Reidsville, NC. Having a blast, I’m sure. We both miss her – but we’re glad Grace is hanging out with Jenny, Emmy, and Elizabeth.

While Grace is away, Erin and I went to the NC coast at Trinity Center in Salter Path, NC.

Erin used to work there as a camp counselor and environmental educator. Of course, some people have worked there quite a long time, so Erin has known them for a while. Like most new parents, we had bunches of pictures with us.

There was a wedding held on the beach this afternoon. For those who don’t know, Erin and I got married down here just over 5 years ago. Nice to see the old sites. (and there’s a certain sight that I’ve never let out of my sight!)

Separation Anxiety

But I want to go with *you*!

But I want to go with *you*!

So for the last month at least, Grace gets uneasy when I leave the room. She fusses, but can typically be convinced to do something else. Within the past week, she’s kicked that up a notch at day care, and will full out cry when we leave her. This is very sad to watch as a Mom, but when we return in the afternoon, she’s always just fine, so I guess I shouldn’t feel badly.

Grace will have the opportunity this weekend to hang out without Mama & Daddy all weekend long. She’s going to get to hang out with her Great Aunt Jenny, her Great Grandma Emmy & maybe even Bish-Bish… Yay for a fun weekend!

Cheerios are my favorite!

Cheerios are my favorite!

Grace usually munches on a few Cheerios in the mornings before we head off to day care. This allows Mama and Daddy to have some breakfast, pack up bottles of milk and package food. This morning, we tried for the second time to introduce the sippy cup. Last time, she choked on it, but this morning things seem to have gone well… We’ll keep you updated.

Wide-eyed with wonder...

Wide-eyed with wonder...

Grace is very interested in little Jaylen. He’s so much smaller than her that she’s just fascinated. She’s used to small things like toys and books, but small people still leave her a little perplexed. She really wants to go over and touch him to verify that he’s not a toy or a book, but a little person. This touch must be supervised, however, because she ends up needing reminders to use ‘gentle touches’ because she gets so excited.

Related to excitement, Grace has developed a new skill; throwing things. When she gets excited (typically in an upset sort of direction), she’s taken to throwing things. She is particularly good at throwing pacifiers out of her crib when she’s upset that she’s got to go to bed at night. This is unfortunate, because she really does like to have a pacifier to help her fall asleep… Oh well, one day she’ll realize that she should keep at least one in the crib with her once she’s made her point by tossing the other two that are typically in there.

Checking out AJ's rattle

Checking out AJ's rattle

Grace is a willful little person. She knows what she wants, and she knows what it takes to get it. This morning, upon arrival at day care, she was placed down beside AJ. Although he was surrounded by 10 or 12 toys, she crawled over and took the rattle he was holding, after having been deterred twice by Ms. Victoria. Once she had the rattle, she even gloated– showing him the rattle and then putting it in her mouth. We’re going to have to work on the social skills; we have no interest in raising a bully. Ms. Victoria pointed out that AJ is very good natured about Grace taking things, but that Daniel (another baby) does not put up with it, and will crawl after her and take things back. I’m glad that at least someone will stand up to her…

On the move!

On the move!

Grace hit the floor moving this morning. Because we were out at the Farmer’s market yesterday a little past when she typically naps, she fell asleep in the car and then was not interested in a real nap once we got home. This meant that she was a very sleepy baby, who went to bed at 5:30pm, so by the time 6:30am rolled around, she was ready to PLAY! When she got to daycare this morning she flitted from thing to thing– pulling books off of the shelf, trying to play with tiny baby Jaylen (to a chorus of ‘Gentle!’ from Mama and “Gentle touches!” from Ms. Kay) and then crawling off to find something else to play with, all in the short 5 minutes it took for Daddy to enjoy a donut compliments of the center’s Donuts for Dad event.

Giving Daddy his present

Giving Daddy his present

This morning Grace woke up giddy with excitement– it’s Father’s Day! She wanted to be the first to wish Daddy a Happy Father’s Day and so she crawled over with her present and surprised him while he was still in bed. Daddy was very grateful for the lovely pen holder that Grace gave him, as well as the tie that she fingerpainted for him at daycare. In honor of Father’s Day, we have a low key day in store with a possible trip to the Farmer’s market. Yay for Daddy, and Pee-Paw and Grandpa! Happy Father’s Day to everyone reading (to who the designation applies, of course)!

Busy baby!

Grace is a busy baby, both in the literal sense– she’s always moving and shaking and heading somewhere! Today, for example, she’s headed over to Chapel Hill to go to a party for one of the guys in Daddy’s office who recently got married. She’s not sure what she’ll think of the West End Wine Bar, but if someone brings her apple juice, she’s pretty confident that the party will be lots of fun! After that, she’s hoping that she’ll get to say ‘Hi’ to her friends the Brusseau’s on our way home.

Finally Friday!

Grace had a bit of a rough start this morning, but as all of the Robinsons, she is looking forward to the weekend. With Father’s Day fast approaching, she’s got a few presents up her sleeves for her Daddy. At day care, they’ve asked what Daddy’s favorite color is, and in conjunction with Mama, Grace has figured out a few nice things that her Daddy might enjoy. Much to Mama’s chagrin, upon arriving at work this morning, she realized that the box of fun Father’s Day presents for Pee-Paw that have been sitting in the library waiting to be mailed for several days now is *still* waiting patiently to be mailed to Winston-Salem.

Hugging Daddy bye-bye

Hugging Daddy bye-bye

Grace was ready to get to work playing hard this morning, but stopped for a minute after washing her hands (she’s gotten really good at turning off the water– she’s already environmentally conscious!) to give her Daddy a little hug. She’s hoping that the rain of the past few days will be gone so that she can go outside and play today!

Turns out, they tried eating watermelon today, and Grace loved it. Who knew that we’d have on seasonally, meal appropriate clothing? What are the odds? 🙂

So today is music day, which Grace loves. Also, when we got there this morning, Ms. Kay was already working on the craft activity (which seemed to involve fish cut out of paper and paint, but I’m not sure). There’s also a brand new water toy which Grace was really enjoying when we got there yesterday. There’s so much fun stuff to do, *I* want to go to day care!
