Today Grace is getting to spend some quality time with Daddy while Mama’s at the library working on her dissertation. When I left them, Gracie was in her bouncy seat listening to the noise (but not watching, thankfully) of the Sopranos. I’m grateful that she’s not talking yet, some of the words she overheard are not ones that I’d like her to parrot at daycare… :-D. There’s lots of other fun stuff that Daddy had planned, including another serving of oatmeal with bananas (she sucked down the 2 ounces that Mama gave her) and possibly the introduction of peas or carrots. We’re not sure which today holds for Grace… she did very well with squash, so now we’re on to more yummy veggies.

Growing BIG!

Riding in the infant car seat

Riding in the infant car seat

So, as you can see from the picture, Grace’s head is almost over the top of her infant car seat. This means that very soon, she’ll need to start riding in her big girl carseat (still rear facing– she’ll face backwards until she’s 1). She likes this comfy little seat though, and isn’t sure that she’ll like the new and bigger one. Guess we’ll have to let you know once she’s had some time to adjust.

She was also very excited to be in a classroom with just 3 other babies this morning (Christopher will come later, and there will be 5 total children in Grace’s class until Sam leaves in a few weeks). Of course, she’s also heard that there will be a new girl in the classroom, so she can’t wait until next week to meet her. For now, she’s basking in the glory of being the only girl.

I love being the center of attention!

Giggles

Everybody thinks their kid is the cutest kid on the block. We maintain that healthy bias, of course. She really is a sweet and good-natured child. She’s not fussy for the sake of being fussy. It’s the usual that makes her upset — I’m hungry, I’m tired, I’m wet, the water is too warm, dad pinched my nose in that onesie, or “mom put me down beside a sand castle again.” In my experiences with her, I can usually identify a reason or combination of reasons why she’s ticked off. It’s when I have no idea why she’s upset that I feel upset. My confusion perpetuates a self-directed frustration.

But again, she’s simply a happy child. Those of you who know me assume that I try to make her smile and laugh whenever possible. I’m getting pretty good at it actually. You may have noticed that Erin’s captured a picture or two of her giggles.

Grace, upon hearing the news that her friends are 'graduating'

Grace, upon hearing the news that her friends are 'graduating'

So Grace found out today that several of her day care friends are ‘graduating’ at the end of this week. Come March, Diana, Emerson & maybe Sam are all going to the 1 year old room. This is nice from the biting perspective, since we know that one of the older kids was the biter, we can be pretty assured that the biting should slow down. It is also nice, because, at least briefly there will only be 5 kids in the class. But it’s sad that her friends are leaving. Bye, bye big kids!

Bellybutton!

A belly button

So quite a while ago, we promised a picture of Grace’s belly button (about two weeks after she was born, once the cord fell off). Some things take a while, but we did take a cute picture of her reclined, and then when her little belly button peeked out, I remembered our promise…

Grace was unamused by said photo, and her look made me wonder if when she’s 14 she’ll forgive me for putting it into the bloggosphere. Hmmm.

Tummy time

Pushing up!

Gracie is excited about tummy time. This weekend she was doing little baby push ups onto her toes, and Great Aunt Jenny tried really hard to get her to put her knees down. She’s working really hard to breaking those two bottom front teeth through, and she’s also building her upper body strength so that soon she’ll be mobile!

Rockin Baby!

Grace really enjoyed her time at her Great Grandma’s house where she had a fun new toy to play with. She enjoyed her toy so much that Mama’s wondering if she shouldn’t try to find an Exersaucer with a rounded bottom for Grace to enjoy at home.

A Special Birthday

Grandma Peterson-- 2/22/1949-2/24/2007

Today is a special day. Sixty years ago, Grace’s grandmother, Erin’s Mom, was born. Unfortunately, Grace won’t be able to play with her Grandma Peterson, but I am sure that at all times she’s watching over her grandbaby with love.

Dancing baby!

Grace took a few moments to dance yesterday morning before day care. She really enjoyed the first song, but had some complaints about the second one (I think that she’s trying to change the channel by beating on the keyboard, but perhaps she’s just keeping time).

Yay for bouncers and yay for babies who like music.

Teeth!

With Ms. Fiori-- sitting with support

Grace went by the doctor yesterday just to make sure that she’s healthy aside from some minor sniffles. The great news is that she is healthy– clear nose, clear ears and great weight gain– our girl is 18.6 pounds (with clothes on– all other measurements were sans clothing). The doctor also noticed that there are two very small teeth trying to peek through on the bottom! He also said that because she’s doing so well with her rice cereal that we can go ahead and start giving her fruits and veggies! Wow– she’s starting solids in earnest!

Poor Daddy!

Daddy has an ear infection. She’s not sure exactly what an ear infection is, but it doesn’t sound like fun. This is not so good for Gracie, because her funny Daddy is trying not to tickle her belly or get in her face for fear of spreading germs (he also has a cold– we know that ear infections aren’t catching). Gracie’s hoping that he gets better soon– she misses having Daddy drop her off at daycare! She’s hoping that a full weekend of R&R while Mama & Gracie go to Reidsville will allow him to get all better. If not, she knows where Mama keeps the Hello Kitty bandaids, and those are good for boo-boos too.

Our fashionista wearing a sweater from her Unda Beel 🙂

Grace is really working hard at sitting up (and crawling and growing teeth), and today at day care, she traded in her favorite blue seat thing for a smaller and lower Boppy that gives a little less support. She still had Ms. Fiori’s hand to keep her stable, but she’s going to sit up by herself any day now!

A tooth?

We are undecided at the Robinson household. Mama things that Grace might be getting a tooth on the bottom. Daddy says that he can’t see anything. Gracie has yet to weigh in, aside from copious amounts of drool on all items of clothing, or any surface that she is placed on for more than 30 seconds. Stay tuned!

OK, so maybe Grace isn’t going to come to theatres, but she’s going to crawl *any day* now. This morning, she was pushing up on her tummy, got her butt off the bed and pushed off with her foot (only to do a face plant, but that’s why she was on the bed for tummy time). If that’s not the precursor to crawling, I don’t know what is. She was very delighted with herself and made lots of noise, much like the noise she was making in the embedded video (link here to google videos). I’m not sure whether to call it a crow or a squawk, but when I went into day care this morning, I noticed that there were several other small people who were making similar noises. I guess it’s time to get out the ear plugs and the baby proofing supplies!

Our little artist

Our little artist

At daycare, Grace did her first fingerpainting. She gave it to us for Valentine’s Day. Included with the colorful project (pink construction paper with purple, red and white paint) was a picture of Grace, in only her BumGenius creating said work of art.

While Mama loved the musical jewelry box that Daddy gave her and Daddy liked the GPS system that Mama gave him, they both agree that Grace’s Valentine’s Day present is the very best of all.
