Today Gracie got to play with her Great Aunt Jenny & Great Grandma Emmy. She got to do all sorts of fun things like eat rice cereal cold (it’s sort of like baby ice cream), take a bath in the sink (very splashy) and giggle out loud with Aunt Jenny. She’s glad that she gets to stay here until tomorrow because she’s just sure that there’s even *MORE* fun in store for her tomorrow!

Here is a video of Grace giggling out loud with her Great Aunt– yay for airplane rides!

Cowgirls rule!

Our little cowgirl with her daycare friend Diana

Today, because Grace is going to see her Great Aunt Jenny this weekend, Grace opted for her cowgirl outfit complete with boots (that she had not yet had a chance to kick off in this photo). While Mama loves the outfit for the cute little horses all over the overalls, Grace likes the sweater. She thinks that the left sleeve is particularly tasty.

Birthday presents!

Yesterday was Mama’s birthday. Gracie celebrated by giggling, grinning & wiggling to beat the band. She also sent Daddy out to get a card for her.

Gracie cleaned up at Mama’s birthday! She got lots of hairbows from her Gammie & Pee-Paw (and a pair of tights); she and Daddy gave Mama sidewalk chalk; Mama’s boss gave Gracie a Duke burp cloth and Mama’s friend from work gave her a baby angel.

Gracie thinks that Mama should have more birthdays so that she can get more gifts. She also thinks that Aunt Cathy is silly for sending a salad bowl. What does a baby want with a salad bowl? Clearly, Aunt Cathy didn’t realize that she should have sent a baby present. Well, there’s always next year. Grace is also disappointed that the toys that Cynthia brought for Mama aren’t things that she can play with yet. Grace looks forward to drawing fuzzy faces– she’s noticed Daddy’s fuzzy face before, but didn’t realize that it was magnetic!

Daddy's Little Pumpkin at daycare

Daddy's Little Pumpkin at daycare

Yesterday after day care Gracie was very fortunate to see her Godmother, Cynthia. Cynthia came over to help with Grace’s bath and have dinner. Unfortunately, due to being hungry and very stopped up (therefore having a hard time breathing) Grace ended up being less excited about her bath than usual, and when Mama pulled out the nasal aspirator to clear things up the tears started. Fortunately, our girl is pretty easy going, so once she had a little to eat and Mama stopped trying to suck her brain out through her nose, she smiled at Cynthia and headed to bed. We are all looking forward to a time when the nasal aspirator is less of an integral part of our daily lives.

Well folks, she did it. Last night Grace slept from 6:30 pm until 5:30 am (and when she woke at 5:30, she really just needed to be put upright for a minute so that she could breathe) and then she snoozed until 6:30 am. I’m very excited about this new development (but must admit that *I* woke up at 3:30 am, ready to feed her, because that’s what my body’s used to) and am almost ready to throw a ticker-tape parade! Of course, I’ve gotten excited prematurely before, so for now, I’m just quietly optimistic. Cross your fingers for tomorrow!

So I remember being that kid that tried to push the envelope, just a little bit when there was a subsitute teacher. Nothing outrageous, just a little, to see what I could get away with. I wonder if Grace will be this way.

Today when we went into daycare, Ms. Fiori wasn’t there, and Katina, who sometimes comes in to visit, but often manages the phones and does tours, etc. was holding down the fort in the infant room. Seeing one adult with five children around her all interested in her attention made me think about the days of substitute teachers when we all tried to get away with just a little more than we did usually. Ms. Kay comes in every morning at 10 am, and I’m pretty sure that Katina is looking forward to 10 AM!

Guess we’ll see how things went when we go this evening.

During play time this morning, Grace was checking herself out in her mirror and was trying to get closer to the baby in the mirror. I’m pretty sure that she doesn’t realize that it’s her reflection, but she sure is working hard at pushing up to check that baby out!

A new fridge?

Grace was very helpful today. Not only did she assist her Daddy in cheering for the Blue Devils as they stomped Maryland, but she also helped him do reserach on a new fridge. She’s not sure so much about the benefits of side-by-sides, freezers on the bottom or freezer on the top, but she thinks that having plenty of space on the outside for pictures of her is probably essential.

She also very patiently waited while Mama & Daddy went around to Best Buy, Home Depot & Lowe’s to check out different models. As long as there is room for milk in the fridge, Gracie’s pretty sure that she’ll be happy with Mama & Daddy’s choice.

Play time!

Play time!

Play time!

Grace is starting her morning off right– she’s the darling of the infant room, surrounded by AJ, Sam and Emerson (who is not in the picture). What more could a girl want? Perhaps a tasty toy to play with. Yesterday when we came to pick her up, Brandy had two soft dolls that she was using to give Grace kisses on the cheek. Grace kept smiling and giggling and grabbing at the dolls for more kisses. Our girl’s a cutie, no doubt (not that I’m biased).

Grace, AJ & Ms. Fiori

Grace, AJ & Ms. Fiori

Grace is back at day care full days and is doing well. In honor of being ‘back in the saddle’ again, she wore the cowboy boots her Godmother Wanda gave her. She immediately kicked them off upon entering the infant room (she was just following Mama & Daddy’s lead– because so many of the children in her room crawl, the infant room is a no-shoe zone to cut down on gross things on baby’s hands and therefore in their mouth). She was already smiling and chatting as we left this morning. Thank goodness for a well adjusted (and finally, well rested) child!

Missing Mittens

The missing mittens (sounds like a kid's mystery title)

The missing mittens (sounds like a kid's mystery title)

So today we headed off to daycare, again on a bit of a delay. We were hustling out of the house, because Mama had a meeting at 10 am, and in the hustle & bustle, Mama ended up with Grace’s mittens in her pocket instead of her own. I’m sure that Grace is wondering why her fingers are cold (actually, I doubt that they’ve taken her outside) and what these huge red woolly things are– they don’t even taste that good!

Folks who have come into Mama’s office are amused by the tiny little mittens– many have even tried them on.

Snow angel

Excited to go outside in the snow!

Excited to go outside in the snow!

Grace went in to daycare today on a bit of a delay. So before we headed off to daycare, Grace wanted to stop and make a snow angel since the snow was getting so deep. She blinked a bit as the snowflakes hit her face, but all in all was pretty low key about the cold. (Of course, she probably didn’t get to cold, except for her nose). She’s still not sure about the taste of her mittens…

Sleeping strike

Grace is on sleeping strike. Beginning a few days ago she’s gone from waking up once at night around 3:30 to waking up at least 3 and sometimes 4 times a night. Instead of being fed and soothed back to sleep in 15 minutes, the getting back to sleep process is taking about 45 minutes-1 hour. This is taking its toll on Mama, and unfortunately during the days, Daddy tries to help and the sleeping strike continues. She seems to be sleepy (rubs eyes, eyelids fall) and within 5 mintues of her head hitting the crib mattress, she’s awake and crying again. Perhaps Mama needs to re-read the Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Baby book again. For now, we’d all just settle for earplugs, I think. Back to rocking.

Ms. Brandy & Grace

Ms. Brandy & Grace

Grace is confused by the fact that she got the typical two days home with Mama & Dad, but now, she’s having a 3rd day home. She likes Mama & Daddy, but her friends at daycare taste better. She’s looking forward to tomorrow with hope. Until then, she’ll have to settle for this picture with Brandy from Friday when they were twins (do you think Brandy got *her* sweater from Gymboree too?)

Small for my highchair

Small for my highchair

Today Grace got to go out to the Mexican restaurant with Mama & Daddy to have lunch with her godmother Cynthia. While everyone else ate lunch, Grace watched, and then after Mama finished her food, Gracie had a bottle. After bottle completion, Grace was interested in playing, and sat on the edge of the table banging things. This was working out well until she banged in to Mama’s full glass of ice water. After all the excitement, Grace was ready for a nap and fell asleep in Mama’s arms while Cynthia and Daddy chatted.
