Last week, Daddy did an *EXCELLENT* job cutting Grace’s toenails.  They are very small and tend to curl under, so this was quite an undertaking.  Because he’d done such a good job previously with her toes, and Mama doesn’t feel that she’s particularly qualified to cut fingernails, she asked if Daddy would give it a whirl.

Unfortunately, baby nail clippers are tricky things, and baby fingers are very small and wiggly.  Grace ended up with nicks on two of her fingers before we called off the entire nail cutting session in favor of a few days of rest before trying again.  The up side?  Hello Kitty bandaids.  Grace says that they taste great.

So today, Grace went to her new daycare, just to check things out.  We left with lots of labels for her bottles, a list of things to bring (a soft blanket for naps, bottles with the date written on them, pacifiers, cloth diapers, rice cereal, etc.).  We got to meet her teachers, Fiori & Kay, and two of her classmates.  We’re very happy with the center, and are mostly prepared, we think.  Grace is still a bit confused about why every thing she sees is covered in purple tape (this is Grace’s color).   They even listened carefully as Mama instructed them in how to assemble a bumGenius versus a gDiaper.  A growing pile awaits near the door so that on Monday morning, it can all be contained and carried over to the NCSU Childcare center.

This video is from yesterday, but is to cute not to share.  She’s mad about having hiccups and trying to make us understand that we should stop them.  Her Gammie was trying to distract her over her Daddy’s head; all in all quite a lively moment.  For some reason, this does not appear to be embedding properly.  Here it is on googlevideos.

What I did not catch on video was Grace rolling over all by herself, which was *QUITE* exciting.  So much so that everyone watching (Daddy, Mama, Gammie, Pee-Paw, Aunt Cathy & Cousin Mary Bedford) all cheered, causing Grace to cry because of the loud noise.

Highchair

Today Grace got to see her grandparents.  In honor of this exciting experience, she sat in her high chair (surrounded by pillows) while we ate lunch.  She kept eyeing Pee-Paw’s pork loin and butternut squash, but made no overt moves to eat off his plate.  She seemed content with her worm and teether.

Indiana Grace

Today Grace decided that she wants to be an archeologist.  She went to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit and was facinated with the scrolls.  She slept through the background information on the scrolls in the Snugli Mama was wearing, but woke up for the good part.  She proceeded to read to everyone who would listen from the scroll closest to her, much to her Mama’s amusement (and mainly the amusement of those around her).

First Christmas!

First Christmas!

Her shirt says so! She had a good time looking at all of her fun new presents and putting a few of them in her mouth to check them out. Here’s a cute video of her checking out the tissue paper.

She likes it when her cousin Mary Bedford and Aunt Cathy come to visit, because that means lots of people to hug and cuddle her. Mary Bedford is a champion bottle giver, seeing as she has triplet step siblings who are younger than her who she helped care for when they were little. (She still helps care for them, but seeing as they are 6, they don’t really take bottles any more).

Stay tuned for more adventures with her cousin & aunt, and for fun time when her grandparents visit on Saturday!

Merry Christmas to all!

Merry Christmas Eve!

'Oh Snap' family photo

'Oh Snap' family photo

Grace was happy to be able to spend time with her Mama’s family for the days before Christmas down in Oak Island.  She was particularly happy that she got to open presents from her Great Grandma, Aunt Jenny, Grandpa and her uncles.  She *loves* the shoes that Aunt Jenny got her (Mama does too, because they are very easy to put on) and told her grandpa that she has Tevas now (an inside family joke).  She got several other cute outfits, some bottles & nipples and some rice cereal (her favorite).

She also went along with the family photo of everyone (but her) with their “Oh Snap” hats, posing in front of the boat, Oh Snap.  Grace has riden in the boat, but didn’t get a hat because her head is to small for custom hats.   Now Mama & Daddy are packing the car while Grace naps, and plan to head home in order to be ready for Aunt Cathy & Cousin Mary Bedford to arrive tomorrow.
